As many of my other posts have discussed, it is extremely apparent in this day and age to make a nonprofit company as transparent as possible in order to build stable relationships. Why do these organizations need great relationships with the public?- to gain funding! Every nonprofit needs funds to continue their cause, and the best way to get people to raise funds or donate funds for an organization is to show them they can trust the nonprofit and its cause. As chapter 10 discusses, funding today is bigger than ever with the multiple ways that people can donate and the number of nonprofits present today. It is necessary for organizations to reach out to people in their younger years in order to gain loyal funders from the start. The nonprofit world is more competitive today, so funding is a must. Of course, it takes time and effort to build lasting relationships with donors. The main thing organizations have to remember is to build a relationship that allows long-term commitments. Yearly fundraisers through social media forums can also be stable ways to fund nonprofits. Online fundraising can get larger numbers of people involved and really reach younger generations since we tend to use social media more anyway.
Chapter 11 discusses how nonprofits can be governed in order to run the most efficiently. From this reading, it is obvious that the most effective methods of governance involve a sort of democratic structure of governing. There is not as much hierarchal structure where one person is in charge, but instead nonprofits use networks to connect its boards and let a lot of the organization workers have a say in decision making. Although such a process may be hectic at times, this democratic style seems as if it would be the most effective. When people are able to voice opinions and be involved in discussions, new ideas that were never thought of at first can be put on the table. For nonprofits, new ways of doing things in a media world are always in need of updates. If there is one thing I have learned from this course, it is that the nonprofit world is always changing and that it is a fast-paced job. In such a fast-paced environment, connections and lasting relationships get organizations the funds they need, the new ideas they use, and the people that will help themselves and their cause grow.
