Strategies for Nonprofit Communication

Chapter 1 of our textbook, Strategic Communications for Nonprofits, had many useful tips for starting and expanding public relation jobs for Nonprofit companies. After visiting Safe Harbor last week, the chapter gave me insight into what types of goals out group should obtain and which areas are best to focus on in our effort to help promote Safe Harbor shelters and events for the semester.

The major strategy that was reiterated throughout the chapter was having good communication within our group. This is vital to expanding Safe Harbor's purpose. We need to continue to have open communication not just amongst each other, but also with Safe Harbor. With open communication, ideas will be able to grow and our brainstorming will be most efficient.

In order to hold open communication, our group needs to make sure we agree on goals and prioritize what it is we hope to accomplish. If collaboration of ideas is not established, smaller less organized groups will form in order to implement their own ideas over others. The main thing for us is to remember it is Safe Harbor's goals that should take priority.

In all ideas we come up with, the main point is to keep Safe Harbor's goal and purpose in mind. This way, as the chapter describes, an appropriate agenda can be mapped out to bring about the best results to Safe Harbor. We need to create a positive image and good media coverage of Safe Harbor in order to make the cause more well known. Hopefully, our semester work will achieve the goals of the organization by using some basic strategies outlined in this first chapter.
